Yesterday was my last full day in Cape Town as I fly to Bangkok tonight!
I really wanted to travel south down the peninsula to the most southwestern point in Africa, so I joined a tour to go check it out!
I used the company that does those hop on/hop off tours – they had a specific route for this tour.
We first stopped at Boulders Beach, which is home to the African penguin! It’s pretty neat to see them all over the rocks and in the water. I always thought they needed really cold environments, but I guess not these kinds!
We then continued south to Cape Point, which is part of the Cape Point Nature Reserve and the Table Mountain Nature Reserve. We walked to a lighthouse, which gave incredible views of the ocean and coastline. Supposedly, this is where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.
From Cape Point, we walked down the peninsula to Cape of Good Hope, which is the most southwestern point in Africa!
The walk was gorgeous but so so windy! A few times I had to stop just because the wind was so strong. There’s a boardwalk path you follow, which winds around the cape and then eventually ends at the infamous sign!
I made it!
We drove back through a few coastal towns, which was gorgeous – felt very similar to Highway 1!
Hope you guys have enjoyed reading about Africa! I saw such a small portion in comparison to the size of the continent, but completely fell in love with the culture and people! Hope I did a good job sharing that with you. 🙂

You did a fabulous job keeping us entertained and informed during this exciting African expedition. All of your photos were beautiful and your commentary was excellent. Certainly makes me want to get over there and see that vast, wild continent.
How cool that you were able to go to the SW most tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. That’s pretty special.
Now you’ll have to shift gears and get ready for Bangkok, Chang Mai and SE Asia. Totally different culture, obviously, from Africa. But a beautiful, rich, gentle culture steeped in Buddhism. Mom and I loved everything about Thailand.
The people, the culture, the temples and the food.

I’m so glad you took advantage of being so close to check out the most south west part of Africa. It looks like a beautiful area. And the penguins are so cute!! I thought they lived in a colder climate, too. Everyone that has read your blog has thoroughly enjoyed it. You did a great job of making us feel part of your journey with your amazing photos and very informative blogs. Thanks so much for taking the time to do that.
