Hiking Table Mountain

I’m now in Cape Town and my tour has officially ended! I can’t believe I’ve almost been in Africa for 2 months now. We’re all staying in Cape Town for a few days, but are on our own.
Yesterday we arrived around noon and the weather was perfect – sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky. Myself and another girl, Casey, really wanted to hike Table Mountain at some point. After talking to the front desk at our hostel, they said we should really do it now, as usually the top of Table Mountain gets covered in fog.

That being said, we decided to hike it! You can take a gondola up, but we wanted to get the excercise.

We took a cab to the trail head and from there, it was estimated to be 1.5 to 2 hours to the top.

It’s not a long hike, but very steep. You are essentially climbing rock “stairs” the entire way up.

It was definitely tough, but after 1.5 hours we made it! The top is actually in between two taller rock formations – in the above picture, we’re almost at the top.

The views were absolutely incredible from the top! You get a 360 degree view of Cape Town and down the peninsula. Given the top of Table Mountain is flat, they have a ton of walking trails to get different view points.

We completely lucked out with the weather and every view was just incredible! The location of Cape Town is amazing, and you don’t realize how big it is until you get a 360 degree view!

We had to be back for our last group dinner, so didn’t have as much time as we would have, but we were at the top for about an hour.

The weather was so nice that it was a 2 hour wait to take the cable car to the top.

I’m here for a few more days and am excited to explore!
