360 degree views of Auckland

Sunday was my last full day in Auckland, so even though I had a race in the morning, I still wanted to get out and see the city. Rain was predicted but it ended up being a gorgeous day with the high around 70.

We ended up going to Mt. Eden, which is the highest volcano in Auckland and only about a 10 minute drive from my friends’ house. I didn’t know it before, but Auckland is built on a volcano field, which is comprised of 53 volcanoes!

It’s a very short walk to the top (it’s only about 650 feet tall), but you get incredible 360 degree views of the city and harbors.

Auckland definitely seemed a lot bigger when you can see every angle of the city! My friend also pointed out where I started the half marathon, which was cool to see the path I took.

I love that it’s spring here because everything is SO green!!

We went and got smoothies after. 🙂 The awesome thing about prices here is that everything is included. Tax is 12.5% so it’s expensive, but it’s already built into the price, so the price you see is what you pay. And no tipping at restaurants! The smoothie was 8.50, but that’s it. You don’t need to add in anything extra!

Headed to a town called Tauranga for two nights with more volcano hiking!
